I stayed up late to finish this thriller. Serial rapists, murder, and a heart-pounding tour of "ghost" forts in the NYC area. Cooper, Chapman, and Wallace team up to figure out who is kidnapping, raping, torturing, and then murdering young women. There's a connection between them, there must be. The randomness plays a big role in the tension of this installment. What else does Fairstein have in store for her readers? I guess I'll find out as I indulge in binge reading her books. Nov 28, Any Length rated it it was amazing.

A gripping thriller made all the better a wonderful reader. I had the audio book and have awarded one extra star for Barbara Rosenblat who has to be one of my all time favourite audio book readers. Her ability to make a book come to life is astonishing. Oct 11, Clayton Yuen rated it really liked it. Entertaining murder mystery that was twisted and bloody, but very descriptive adventure.

My first read on the series, so I'll have to go back and catch up, probably find the first books enlightening. Four stars from my point of view Jan 09, Pat rated it liked it Shelves: Such a difference prosecuting a rape case now compared to 30 years ago. This book had a lot of info about islands and forts around New York. Breezy Point, that was so damaged in Hurricane Sandy, is featured. Good story, interesting history. Aug 25, Marseydoats rated it really liked it.

This was intense, and while I enjoyed it, it was not as good as some of the other books in the series. Mar 26, Diane rated it really liked it Shelves: Another enjoyable Alex Cooper murder mystery! Mar 20, Ally Goodwin rated it liked it Shelves: The history and description of new york and new york culture is terrific. Aug 19, Jeannine rated it liked it. Good, but not one of the best. I always like how she keeps several cases going at the same time and is not always sure which events belong to which case - a nice dose of reality.

Always a great read. I love her books.

It was a good thriller and fun reading about areas in New York that I'm familiar with. I'll certainly try more of her books. Jun 07, Anneb rated it liked it Shelves: Nov 16, Barbara rated it really liked it. Dec 12, Brian O'Leary rated it liked it. Good story, but another one of these authors that likes to hear themselves talk, just way too many pages of useless filler.

I swear they are getting paid by the word sometimes.

Mar 03, DGT rated it liked it. In Killer Heat, published in , the literally overlooked Governors Island no apostrophe at the foot of Manhattan provides the main location, together with the abandoned Maritime Building which, at the time of the novel, was being opened up to potential development and to tourism. Indeed, given the Native American, Dutch, British, and then various phases of American history which are frozen on Governors Island, one could envisage history playing a larger role, still, in Killer Heat.

An island up the Hudson and another off Far Rockaway also feature in the geography of the serial rapes and murders that make up the plot, and enhance the fear-quotient, particularly when the heat-wave gives way to a storm as the novel reaches its final chapters. Fairstein raises the question of how crime and overlooked or marginal places in a city interact. The tension -- as always in these novels starring Assistant DA Alexandra Cooper -- is skilfully maintained, and the two LAPD detectives who work with her, Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace, expand the focus, which, otherwise, would be relentlessly upon Alex.

At the same time, Cooper argues with defense attorney Gene Grassley in front of Judge Lamont over the retrial of sixty-one years old Floyd Warren; accused of rape three decades ago, but the jury was hung and he skipped town before the second trial. Grassley says his client is too old to commit a violent crime while Cooper points out that does not matter as he should do the time even though he will probably die behind bars. Cooper contends he became a serial rapist while Greeley insists he was never arrested.

Adding to the circus of the Judge having to apply the ridiculous statute is cronies of violent convicted rapist Pablo Pasano sit in the courtroom to harass Cooper, who put him behind bars. The serial killer investigation is a terrific subplot that would normally carry a novel; however, it is the legal issues involving the Warren trial complicated by the Pasano presence that makes the latest Cooper thriller one of the best sub-genre entries of the year so far. The story line is action-packed from the cigar onset and never slows down as the audience feels they are traipsing around the Big Apple during a sever heat wave.

It is a shame that this woman is profiting from a reputation built on deceit and calumny. She has the stolen lives of 5 teenagers on her hands. It is shame that people are paying for her lifestyle. We should disgorge her ill earned profits and serve time in a federal penitentiary for abuse of power and malicious prosecution. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Another wonderful story with her usual twists and turns! I stayed up all night reading this one.
