Now, many people will say I should not spiritualize my struggle with anorexia. It is a mental illness and has nothing to do with Satan or God, but I would disagree. I have been studying the Book of 1 Samuel lately, and one thing really stood out to me. In 1 Samuel But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.
God was no longer speaking to Saul, but he was hearing from a distressing spirit. On one occasion, when the distressing spirit came upon him, he tried to pin David to the wall with a spear. This was not the action of a rational man. He probably seemed mentally imbalanced to the people around him, but he was being harassed by a demon.
He was listening to the lies of Satan, not the truth of God.

Satan tempted Him three times and every time, Jesus used the Word of God against him. After the third temptation, Satan knew he could not beat Jesus, so … the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. When I think of Satan coming to tempt Jesus, I realize, he is going to come against every person, especially Christians. Being tempted or harassed by Satan does not mean you are not saved.

I think the reason we make claims like this and attribute them to our faith is because we have a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to be strong in the Lord. This misunderstanding leads us to trade the truth of the Bible for the lies of the world. Why is it that we are so willing to allow Satan to deceive us into believing we are less than what we have been created to be?
The reality of our existence is far more compelling than some silly quote. One such event occurred while on a boat with his disciples. The boat was about to be lost in a violent storm, but Jesus had another motive altogether. Their only course of action was to ask Jesus to intervene.
They asked a Rabbi what they should do when their ship was breaking up. They asked because they had run out of fight. I thoroughly enjoyed this: I tried not to let that affect my review. Most of the characters are 2. Most of the characters are wounded in some way by abuse or neglect. I have to agree with some of the previous reviews that I've read in regards to this novel. It's not a thriller in my opinion. It does deal with Domestic Violence both emotional and physical. I liked the way Ms.
Churches and Ministries
King wrote about how it affects children who have grown up in that type of environment, from completely different backgrounds and levels of abuse. It comes from a Male's perspective as well as the females, each person deals with it differently and she wove them together to make a great story.
I found this to be more about the main protagonist who is forced to go through a heck of a lot of issues that would have to be devasting to even begin to deal with. I would like to thank the publisher as well as NetGalley for providing me with an e-galley in exchange for my honest opinion, the opinion expressed above are my own.
Sep 09, Siqahiqa rated it liked it. Kind of mixed feeling while reading this book. I have read faster than I thought despite the slow-paced storyline. More on fiction, not mystery. All the things you did wrong, you did exactly right. Aug 18, Deborah Blanchard rated it it was amazing Shelves: Full of richly woven characters, this book is an emotional read. This is a story of domestic violence and how it affects us throughout our lives.
It is a story of love and loss, of strength and resilience. This book flows effortlessly from the very beginning to the triumphant end. It is rich in emotions and the dialogue is true to life. The characters are well developed and believable. This is a must read for all. It made me laugh and it made me cry.
I loved this book. The author truly knows how Full of richly woven characters, this book is an emotional read. The author truly knows how to weave a tale that draws you in. Jul 06, Jodi rated it did not like it Shelves: This book was boring and predictable. I'm not sure who decided it would be considered a 'thriller" but it was not that. I really enjoyed this story.
There are some tough topics in this story that pulled on the heart. We can learn so much from our parents. I loved the women characters as well as Walter and Tony. The author did a wonderful job on character development. The scene at the Cemetery at the end of the book where Elle wise beyond her years helps her Mom and Aunt recognize the strength this family of women display and how they have persevered really stood out for me and pulled everything together.
I recei I really enjoyed this story. Jul 25, Jennifer Bertoldo rated it it was amazing. Jul 15, Renee rated it it was amazing. Very good This has a lot of turns and twists. Don't think I ever figured out any of. When I thought I had Tony figured our, plot twist, again out of left field.
The family dynamic was sick! A lot if drinking along with abuse A must read. Jul 20, Kira FlowerChild rated it liked it Shelves: This book contains extreme triggers for people who have suffered abuse.
Whisper Me This
The description provided does not adequately emphasize the central role of severe domestic violence that this story contains. If you have a history of abuse, proceed with caution.
I felt it was imperative to post the above warning because I found it exceedingly difficult to finish this book. By the time I was about three-fourths of the way through it, I had to take medication to prevent an anxiety attack. I suppose I should have stopped then but I knew from the tone of the book there would be a happily-ever-after ending, so I continued to plow through to the end. I gave the book three stars because it was well written. I felt I had to give the author her due, even though I did not find reading the book an enjoyable experience. About that happily-ever-after ending - I completely disagree with the author about the romantic partner she provides for the main character, Maisey.
I think Maisey would have been much better off with someone who came from a family with absolutely no history of abuse. I say this because I have been married for 38 years to a man whose parents never once so much as raised their voices in front of him. If they had disagreements, they took them to another room, shut the door, and worked them out quietly. Pretty much exactly the opposite of the way I grew up. My husband has been a steadying influence for me, and that is why our marriage has survived this long.
The author depicts Tony as someone who was so traumatized by abuse that his worst fear was becoming an abuser. She mentions that Tony had counseling when he was a child, but there is nothing to indicate that he was undergoing counseling during the period of the novel, even though he was having flashbacks and nightmares and insomnia.
In my opinion, Tony is at a high risk for becoming the thing he most fears, simply because he has not dealt with his past. One cathartic moment is not enough. He should be in ongoing therapy, possibly for the rest of his life. And he should wait until he is in a much more stable mental condition before even considering a romantic relationship. I realize the author has worked in the mental health field.
I have no idea of her personal background, or whether she has dealt with abuse in her own life. The above is my opinion based on my own experiences. This book has taught me to read the descriptions carefully - and read between the lines if necessary. Err on the side of caution.

Stop at the first sign of a trigger. I would advise others like me to do the same. Sep 07, Jennifer rated it really liked it Shelves: There were so many secrets kept hidden from Maisey. Loved the story, writing style and characters. Although, most of the characters were horrible people. Thank goodness Maisey grew up with Howard as a dad, because her mom was awful. Leah reminded me of Joan Crawford. Between Leah and Greg, no wonder Maisey is the way she is. Sometimes I forgot Elle was only twelve, she seemed very grownup and more mature than some of the adults.
Maisey returns home after getting a phone call that her mom is in a coma and her dad may be facing charges of for abuse and neglect. Maisey never felt she was good enough for her mom and was always a disappointment, not living up to her fullest potential. Her mom, Leah, would go crazy when Maisey mentioned an imaginary friend named Marley. Leah even went as far as to hit Maisey with a belt over Marley.
Maisey and her daughter, Elle, arrive at her parents' house to find her dad burning documents in the fireplace. Maisey discovers her mom was hiding many secrets and the mystery of Marley might finally be solved. Throw in Greg, Elle's father, who is very controlling, demeaning and abusive. Loved the cover of the book. The story held my interest from beginning until end. I definitely recommend the book and can't wait to read more by the author.
