There's something about Mary

Each chapter starts with an outline and ends with a review. Along the way are sidebar comments sort of side bar, anyway: When I first flipped through the book, I cringed. It looked like a 7th grade social studies book I'm assuming, as I haven't seen a 7th grade social studies book in a long, long time. I fretted that the treatment of prayer might be simplistic or somehow cheapened.

My biggest fear was that reading it would not be a pleasure but a chore as the ideas would be put together too choppily. My fears and my fretting were for nought. I took deep pleasure in reading the book. DeTurris Poust's exhaustive knowledge and her writerly charm drew me forward through the book. I can even see a good to the Essential Guides format. This book has it all for Catholics. It has the prayers - Saints, rosary, all the holidays, centering prayer, devotions,Liturgy of the hours, etc. It also is updated with the new responses set in motion in Nov It offers ways to pray for those who need guidance.

It explains how devotions were started and what they mean. To me, it is a terrific book to have along side your missal and the Bible.

Nice little book on developing a sanctuary of prayer in the home and a good overview of the many spiritual tools available to Catholics. This text is a must for current Catholics and those, like me, who are seekers after spiritual enrichment through prayer and, possibly, the Mass. It is sensitive, intelligent, and readable.

Published on October 25, Published on February 25, Published on January 3, Published on January 7, I have no hesitation at all in recommending Mary to any audience or parish — she was a total blessing to ours.

She guided her audience through the journey that she herself is on, helping them to discover the peace and pleasure that can be found in everyday chaos and struggles. Mary spent two days with our principals, sharing her stories and her insights, both of which were filled with wit and wisdom. She was able, during that short time, to bring peace and joy as she shared with us her experiences with the Everyday Divine.

I highly recommend that you spend time with Mary, in person and through her writings.
