Jun 30, Brodie Smith rated it really liked it. It's a small book, so there's no way it could be the full resource on what it means to be a dad. Then again, this book by Art Rainer and his father Thom Rainer doesn't set out to give all the answers. There is no manual for parenthood and all cases are affected by varying circumstances and factors.

This simple approach is to give examples from personal experience that might just help dads leave a legacy IN their children and not just FOR their children. As a man who grew up lacking It's a small book, so there's no way it could be the full resource on what it means to be a dad. As a man who grew up lacking the constant father figure, I hope to emulate some of the principles shared in the book with my son even though I may have missed out on them growing up.

Though you may roll your eyes at some of the "perfect" pictures shared in it and the quasi-repetitive written humility, this can be a quick, devotional-type read and one any parent can profit from. Still, there is a lot to learn from this father and son in their experiences. What I read is very much how I want my relationship with my six month old son to turn out. The principles Thom Rainer tried to father by look to show children masculine love that is real and present, not distant and guessed at.

Most of all, Rainer wanted his love as a father to give his sons a little taste of Gods love for them. There are no formulas, no instructions given in this book on how to father in any specific situation. Instead, it goes deeper showing a picture of how living by principle, even imperfectly, a father's son has grown to love and respect his father.
