I am swayed by the technical and thorough details more than I am by the writer's technique. In spite of that slight misgiving I say that this is a well done story and worth the time to read every word even the technical discussion.
The Monster of Perugia - The Framing of Amanda Knox
I am swayed to believe what the author has concluded. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I was reading the Monster of Florence, which was a fabulous thrift store find. It briefly mentioned the horrifying truths behind the terrible legal system in Italy and how it correlated to Amanda. I am a self proclaimed Florence loved and I would did want to live there and study art. When I finished the first book I quickly ran and got this one as it is a evidence based book that deals with the problems in the case In my brief experience mentioning my praise for these two books, I was stunned to see how many of my friends and family had absolutely NO evidence of Amanda's guilt but yet was sure of it.
Amanda Knox Case Books & Documentaries
They are an example of how the drive by media has truly killed her credibility. It makes you not want to travel and if you do, have a good lawyer on your trip. It was obvious to me from day 1 that they are both innocent. I don't understand why even the mainstream media and politicians are not more involved. Didn't we learn anything from the Holocaust or from the treatment of blacks in the deep South - when there is an obvious injustice, we all need to get involved and correct this.
We all see this happening, yet I'm not sure if anyone in power is stepping in. Not just for Amanda and Rafaelle's sake, but really corrupt prosecutors and tabloid journalism needs to be reined in. I understand free speech but Amanda has been slandered relentlessly in the global press. Even when Amanda is interviewed, the journalists ask her ridiculous questions like why she blamed Lumumba when we all know that police brought up his name and that coerced confessions happen. Never been so disgusted by the media, the police and prosecution, the gullible masses, the internet trolls, as I've been in this case.
What's a First Lady for??? Waterbury for a brilliant examination, presentation and explanation of the numerous scientific details of this case and how they were shamefully twisted, overlooked, ignored and manipulated to serve someone else's hidden agenda. Five shiny stars and a great big thank you an outstanding book! Some former tabloid writers are finally, 'outting' this shameful field for what it is.
Monster of Perugia
Sex, Drugs, and Scandal from Inside the Tabloid Jungle Perhaps literacy is such a highly desirable quality for any nation that our civilized? Of course tabloids and tabloid writers get sued all the time for their shameless slander, tho they believe they are quick and stealth enough to keep outrunning it. The threat of bankruptcy hangs successfully well over their tiny, money-grubbing, little heads. The author is very knowledgeable in the field of forensic science and as a result takes literally every piece of so called 'evidence' of guilt brought up and scientifically disproves and destroys it.
I was astonished at the absolute incompetence or possibly connivance of the prosecuting team that is brought to light in this book.
I was so astonished that I had to read a second book of the same case by another author just to confirm the truth of what this book contends. A must read for those who don't realize that "Prosecutorial misconduct" is a real thing, or that investigating authorities do not overstep their authority or they are never biased. The book details as to how the notorious Perugian authorities, especially the public minister Guiliano Migninni entrapped Amanda to "settle some score".
If you really want to understand how a totally innocent girl and her totally innocent boyfriend were railroaded into murder convictions read this book. It goes through the whole thing from the historical roots of the prejudices of the locals to the paranoid tendencies of the lead prosecutor and the coercive techniques that forced the so-called "confession" to the complete and total lack of evidence against Amanada and Rafaelle to the overwhelming evidence against the actual murderer.
It is very well written and well reasoned. Think this guy nailed it as far as what really happened in Italy to poor Amanda Knox. The tactics the police used to 'extract' her 'confession' were disgusting. And the 'Monster' deserving of his title. See all 52 reviews. Most recent customer reviews. Amanda Knox is innocent. Now that Amanda and Raffaele have spent more than three years in prison, many people have learned enough of the truth behind the lurid headline deceptions to realize that Amanda and Raffaele Sollecito, her boyfriend at the time, are clearly innocent of the crime. What most people still do not begin to understand, however, is that these wrongful convictions were not a matter of justice taking its course — frustrating, slow, but beneath it all fair.

The wrongful convictions of Amanda and Raffaele were the result of deliberate acts perpetrated by corrupt and dishonest people. Those people have abused their powers of office, they have savaged the lives of innocent young people, and racked their families and loved ones. They should be brought to a halt, and they should be brought to justice. By drawing on historical and literary allusions, Monster of Perugia shows what has happened in the most powerful terms available.
Many other commentaries have drawn back from the brink of speaking the full truth about what has happened in Perugia. The truth in this matter is extreme, it is outrageous, and at times, it is unbelievable. Strong reactions to The Monster of Perugia are already beginning to come in. Two of the first: Douglas Preston, bestselling author with Mario Spezi of The Monster of Florence, which described the investigations of a series of murders in the region of Florence, Italy involving the same prosecutor as this case, wrote this.
Waterbury, an expert in forensics and the scientific evaluation of evidence, shows how virtually all the evidence used to convict Knox of murder was fraudulent, manipulated, and concocted. He makes the clearest case yet that she was framed by powerful Italian authorities intent on covering up their own mistakes. I highly recommend this well-written, clear, gripping, and ultimately infuriating book.
It meticulously records the folly, spectacle, and outrageous injustice lurking behind an Italian facade. Though his insights cut like a scalpel and aim a high-powered microscope at every questionable detail and procedure, Waterbury is more than a scientist. The real power of this presentation lies in its organizing principle, pointing out the historical and literary precedents to be found at every turn.
He proves his main theorem unequivocally - that although the monstrous wrongs committed against Amanda Knox happened on Italian soil, they can absolutely happen to anyone, regardless of country or culture, anywhere, at any time. By the end, Waterbury makes us understand what it's like to be an entirely innocent victim of a corrupt system. He tells us the truth and calls us to action. Nook , 0 pages. Written by a scientist not a journalist which was both good and bad. He prefaces that he went in to this with no notion of guilt or innocence. I'm glad he included that or I would have been less likely to believe him as that's where his partiality ended. He does give a lot of evidence and scientific back up as to why he believes in Amanda Knox's and Rafaelo's innocence.
He starts each chapter by referencing a historic episode, movie, etc Salam witc Hard to figure out where to rate this one. Overall, seemed to have very strong evidence to support their evidence and guilt of the third man.
