Apr 24, Sian Powell rated it it was amazing. However, it looked interesting, so I picked it up from the library. It is not really a diet book. It is a book about being addicted to eating. The book outlines clearly what addictive eating us, how we fool ourselves when we are doing it and what we can do about it. Focusing purely on weight loss for appearance sake only will not work. We need to raise our self esteem and eat healthily through choice.

We need to lose the diet Another diet book? Gillian has a good website and has a Ted Talk on YouTube. I would recommend looking at these to help you decide if the book is right for you. The book has made me look at my own eating habits and I can recognise when I eat addictively. Jan 04, Laura rated it it was amazing.

Short book so good for light reading on a short journey. The advice is nothing new but often forgotten and delivered in a humorous tone. Books by Gillian Riley. My partner said I looked 'trim' the other day as a result which I have taken as a massive compliment! The only reason I have given this four rather than five stars is due to the way it is written - she quotes sources such as The Sun and for me, I found it slightly written in a Sun type manner which irritated me a bit for a reference type book.

However, I think the theories are brilliant and I think it has permanently changed my relationship with food and how I eat. I bought this together with the book Gut which explains what physically happens to the body when you eat and think the two of them have worked perfectly together in improving my general health and well-being.

As someone who has dealt with food A very good read.

One more step

As someone who has dealt with food addiction for a very long time I feel this played an important role in my recent rediscovery of personal willpower which has allowed me to ignore my addiction and finally have the courage and strength to say "no" to unnecessary food. I very much liked that it didn't focus on fad dieting or any such false nutritional nonsense and instead gave sound very sound advice and info. I can't really discuss the exercises as I didn't do them, I just wanted to absorb the information written and keep it in mind, something extra to back me up, some resource I can turn to when I feel the urge to binge.

The book is presented in a neutral way which is in my opinion the best way a self-help book can be presented After reading I still binged for awhile, my food addiction didn't stop until about two weeks later, it took awhile for the thoughts and information to sink in, I believe other factors had a control aswell but I will give credit where credit is due and say this book definitely gave me a bit of a nudge and sometimes a nudge is all you need.

For those who this is not completely new for, it is still worth reading, not least because it serves as a fresh dose of inspiration and because it pulls it all together very succinctly and with some really useful nuggets of advice. In short, this book has got me back on track and I shall reread certain chapters if and when I find myself slipping.

I have taken off a star because - while I understood her reasoning for including the nutrition section - I feel she would have been better signposting the work of qualified dietitians rather than attempting cover it herself when this is not her area. I have worked with several brilliant and very highly qualified dietitians during my life, and I could almost hear them disagreeing with certain aspects of what she was saying in this section, as it clashes with a lot of eating disorder recovery nutritional advice.

Like myself, there will inevitably be some people who have recovered from anorexia and bulimia and found themselves with an overeating habit that find their way to this book, and unqualified nutritional advice can be pretty dangerous for these people if they are not in a really strong place. Otherwise, you can skip this section and lose nothing from the rest of the book. I feel quite excited now and already in a lot more control than I did at the outset. I also never thought anything could convince me to shift my motivation from weight loss, but now for the first time I am focusing on my quality of life, thanks to this book.

This book is genius!! If you are a yoyo dieter like me you need this!!! I could feel it changing the way I thought about food within a couple of chapters it's great and I couldn't recommend it more!! At last, an insight into why I find it so difficult not to binge occasionally, and to stick to the way of eating that I know I should be following! This is the best book I've found so far on why I do what I do, and how to control it.

Anyone who wants to get healthier should read it and take note - you don't have to follow it slavishly! Really practical advice based on neuroscience and psychology. It's still not easy to put into practice, but at least you have a good chance of improving your eating habits. That is saying a lot in these days! It's changed my thinking completely and in such a simple way. See all reviews. Would you like to see more reviews about this item? Most recent customer reviews.

Eating Less: Say Goodbye to Overeating: wesatimunogo.cf: Gillian Riley: Books

Published 6 months ago. What I like most is the idea of never going on a diet again. The focus of this book is not on nutritional information; it's about how you apply your ideal nutritional style smaller meals, fewer snacks, vegetarian, low-carb, etc. Gillian Riley explains the content of the seminars she has been leading in the UK since She has developed the seminar and book content through understanding what's needed in order to take control of overeating - as the result of her conversations with those who struggle with food and weight.
