But when they go on a ship things start to head there way and some things get bad. My adult brain fought with the idea of the octopus speaking out loud to the sailors and early oceanographers. Jun 11, Mandy rated it it was amazing Shelves: So far this has been our favorite Magic Tree House book!! We read it at least 30 times before having to return it to the library, but I have a feeling we'll be buying our own copy.

I love how these books weave educational info into a fun story - and this particular book teaches the importance of compassion. Aug 11, Eden Poon rated it it was amazing Shelves: Oct 07, Danna rated it really liked it. Who doesn't love the Magic Tree House Series? Great read for second and third graders about the creatures of the sea and those who have explored them. My students were engaged and involved in the book. Hopefully this is the hook to many more happy reading moments for them.

My daughter was cringing, open-mouthed and hanging on every word, worried that the octopus would get killed, but Jack and Annie saved the day. Dec 30, Daphne Kim rated it really liked it. My daughter and I continue this series with a very exciting one. When I'm also reading some pretty long books, it's nice to read one we can finish in a day.

Two sailors and one scientist went there looking for seashells and butterflies. Jack and Annie at first thought that they were pirates from a time way back with two pirates named Pinky and Stinky.

When they came closer and arrived at the little deserted island, they noticed that they were just sea explorers. They later on got stuck in a sea storm. An octopus rescued them from the storm. Jack first thought the octopus was trying to squeeze him to death along with Annie, while the octopus was trying to save them from drowning.

They had been searching for another secret of happiness for Merlin the Magician. They also got back on board of the HMS Challenger when the captain was trying to kill the octopus and the scientist had wanted to study the octopus then have it slaughtered. Henry, another scientist agreed with Jack and Annie to use the wand of Dianthus. They were also able to have the octopus speak to say, "Leh me go home! This book is a good book if you want to learn about the real beuaty and magic about wondorous sea monsters. Sea monsters may look ugly and nasty but the truth is they csn help you and they won't hurt you if someone just act respectful.

Dark Day in the Deep Sea

When jack and annie travel to this time where captain and sailors sailed back then, the have noticed a big, humungous octopus who tries to encounter them but the sailors get worried and the capitan orders the sailors to attack that nasty maonster before they all last. As the sailors capture him on this huge fish net, they started shouting for joy and the captain decided to make his sailors attack that creature to death while he couldn't move. Jack and annie try to convince him to stop his sailors but he wasn't convinced enough.

But as Jack took out his book of magic spells his freinds teddy and kathyleen gave, he spook the magic out and made the sailors stop what they were doing. They let go of that big sea creature and happily he was free and they all noticed he didn't attack but he was a little hurt. As all of them ate dinner the capitan gave jack and annie a precious shell to give to merlin so he can feel better. Nov 14, Angie rated it liked it Shelves: This was an interestin Synopsis: This was an interesting adventure for Jack and Annie, not what I would have expected in their current quest to find the four secrets of happiness.

With that said they did have quite the adventure and meet some of the early sea life biologists as they were discovering the deep sea. It did take quite a fantasy twist, something reminiscent of 20, leagues under the sea. While this wasn't really a favorite of mine in the series it was still a great adventure that young readers will enjoy.

Nov 03, Alejandra torres rated it really liked it. In my opinion, Dark Day in The Deep sea Magic Tree house, 39 is a great book because the author Mary Pope Osborne made the book have a look of details because its about sea creatures that been in the past, and scientists figuring out if there still out there. These twenty-foot-long predators lived about million years ago-long before the Mesozoic Era. And telling us about the past and how the sea creatures looked liked, how long were they, where they lived, what's there climate by showing pictures. And to me its GREAT because there's stuff you never new about and by just reading a book you figure out what you missed this hole time. I love the author and the book she wrote. I hope you liked my review. Dec 10, Libby rated it really liked it Shelves: My kids like this more than I do. I find all the dialogue to be quite perfunctory and repetitive BUT I was really impressed with how many of the facts in this book were learned and retained by my 5-year-old son.

For example, we started reading and Eyewitness Ocean book after this and he recognized the HMS Challenger which was mentioned in both books, as well as the image of the Nautilus, and knew what it was. WE were given this book with a few others, so we started here because my My kids like this more than I do. WE were given this book with a few others, so we started here because my son picked it out, but I'd like to start at the beginning of the series. Luckily, each book has a little "recap" intro so it's ok if you don't read them in order- you won't be totally lost, even though things are mentioned from previous books.

Jun 23, Shelli rated it liked it Shelves: Unlike many other series for young readers, the Magic Tree House should be read in chronological order to best appreciate Jack and Annie's travels through time as they go on various missions; which are typically completed in four parts. Parents and educators will enjoy going along for the ride as much as their students!

My daughter is a teenager now but she still gets excited when she sees a new tree house adventure has come out. Oct 18, Patti K rated it liked it Shelves: This one is maybe 3.

Not that it's her fault my kid likes Jack and Annie and isn't really the target age, but the stories seem somehow a little more scary than they used to be before they were Merlin Missions. Still, we liked it and we'll keep going. These stories are longer, so they take us a lot longer to read, anyway plus, she now brings a book home from school every week , but this one felt especially long. I guess that's probably why I just liked it and didn't 'really like it' or think ' This one is maybe 3.
