The only real information they give is in the references, material that is written by other people. I had hoped it would be a more useful book. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I received my MLIS in and still looking for employment in my field. If you want to ensure you have the most up to date and needed skills for employment in the field, this book is a must read.
All skills are covered from transferrable skills to networking. Have on hand to "pursuse" and perhaps encourage one of grandchildren to consider! Such a "meddler" we grandmas can be! This will help in my efforts to gain practical skills in order to advance my new career as a librarian.

One person found this helpful. There is life for Librarians outside Libraries. This book is very helpful. The authors give examples on how to apply librarian skills in various work settings. Being a twenty-first century information professional can be difficult at times, as it can be hard to articulate to potential employers or clients just what it is that we do. It's critical to move beyond library terminology, as doing so opens up the realm of potential possibilities. It provides a practical and manageable framework for information professionals to develop and articulate skills necessary for a successful and sustainable career.
Deborah Hunt and David Grossman outline the skills in sections including computer and technical, "beyond reference," business and management, interpersonal, attitude, and the "intangible.
